Welcome to MUD Foundation

MUD Foundation is a 501(c)(3) art and technology nonprofit founded in Miami in 2018 by the Cuban-born, US-based media artist Rodolfo Peraza. We create art and technology programs and hybrid (physical and digital) exhibitions to inspire creativity, foster social connections, and promote a more inclusive society. We teach, produce, and present extended reality (XR) art alongside the artists and technologists who make it.

MUD Foundation INC’s first exhibition-workshop event was The Art Hack Data (www.arthackdata.net) which defines the critical media approach and the interest in digital culture and the internet in society. From 2017 to now, the MUD Foundation programs have been featured in local, national, and international venues, including the Perez Art Museum, De La Cruz Collection, and Bakehouse Art Complex, among other local institutions. In 2022 MUD Foundation received the Knight Foundation New Work award for the development of the exhibition program Media Under Dystopia.

Other essential supporters are The Knight Foundation, The National Endowment of the Arts, Florida Cultural Affairs, Miami Cultural Affairs, and the co-founder and tech partner startup, Next Reality Digital.

The mission of the MUD Foundation is to facilitate educational and artistic projects that foster awareness of contemporary digital culture and its impact on society. We believe in the transformative power of art and technology, and we strive to spark creativity and bridge communities, artists, and technology partners in order to promote inclusivity through our initiatives.

MUD Foundation’s vision is to become a dynamic interface between community, technology, and art. At the same time, we are creating the tools to lower barrier access to art through extended realities interfaces, connecting communities with this cutting-edge technology.

Through our diverse range of programs, we aim to push the boundaries of immersive experiences and critical media. We support artists at the forefront of blending immersive technology and critical media in their creative practices.

Media Under Dystopia — is our flagship exhibition program. It presents tech-centered art that challenges conventional norms and invites participants to co-create thought-provoking installations.

XRCamp —  is a free art and technology program that takes participants from the history of computers to Net Art and the internet as a public space for creation.

WISPer —  brings augmented reality art and VR interventions into Miami's public spaces, open in the browser on any internet-connected device. Its name joins "whisper" and WISP (Wireless Internet Service Provider).

The Sound of Art —  is a free art and technology program that takes participants from the history of computers to Net Art and the internet as a public space for creation.

MUD_DAO —  is a transparent platform for allocating resources to collaborations between artists, technologists, and organizations.

A collaboration and Exploration center, is at the heart of our work. We actively foster partnerships with artists, technologists, educators, and community members and organizations to explore the possibilities at the intersection of creative expression and technological innovation. By embracing emerging technologies like WebXR and real-time technology, we transform traditional artistic experiences into interactive and accessible encounters. Our goal is to create inclusive spaces for collaborative exploration, pushing the boundaries of immersive storytelling and unlocking new frontiers of digital culture.
