About

Welcome to MUD Foundation

MUD Foundation Inc

An innovative nonprofit organization dedicated to the exploration of art, technology, and education. We are focused on expanding the possibilities when the internet, data, extended reality (XR), and art intersect. MUD was founded as a 501(c) 3 organization in 2018 by the Cuban-born, US-based media artist Rodolfo Peraza to create art + tech programs and foster the art and tech community in Miami and beyond.

MUD Foundation INC’s first exhibition-workshop event was The Art Hack Data (www.arthackdata.net) which defines the critical media approach and the interest in digital culture and the internet in society. From 2017 to now, the MUD Foundation programs have been featured in local, national, and international venues, including the Perez Art Museum, De La Cruz Collection, and Bakehouse Art Complex, among other local institutions. In 2022 MUD Foundation received the Knight Foundation New Work award for the development of the exhibition program Media Under Dystopia.

Other essential supporters are The Knight Foundation, The National Endowment of the Arts, Florida Cultural Affairs, Miami Cultural Affairs, and the co-founder and tech partner startup, Next Reality Digital.

Our Mission

At MUD Foundation is to facilitate educational and artistic projects that foster awareness of contemporary digital culture and its impact on society. We believe in the transformative power of art and technology, and we strive to spark creativity, bridge communities, artists, and tech partners to promote inclusivity through our initiatives.

MUD Foundation as art + tech interface

MUD Foundation’s vision is to become a dynamic interface between community, technology, and art. At the same time, we are creating the tools to lower barrier access to art through extended realities interfaces, connecting communities with this cutting-edge technology.

Our Programs

Through our diverse range of programs, we aim to push the boundaries of immersive experiences and critical media. Our flagship program, the Media Under Dystopia (MUD) Exhibition Program, showcases tech-centered art that challenges conventional norms and invites participants to co-create unique and thought-provoking installations. We support artists at the forefront of blending immersive technology and critical media in their creative practices.

XRHub Lab

A collaboration and Exploration center, is at the heart of our work. We actively foster partnerships with artists, technologists, educators, and community members and organizations to explore the possibilities at the intersection of creative expression and technological innovation. By embracing emerging technologies like WebXR and real-time technology, we transform traditional artistic experiences into interactive and accessible encounters. Our goal is to create inclusive spaces for collaborative exploration, pushing the boundaries of immersive storytelling and unlocking new frontiers of digital culture.

Impact and Accessibility

At MUD Foundation, we believe in the power of art to inspire positive change. We strive to make art more accessible and decentralized, ensuring that diverse voices are heard and represented. Through our initiatives, we seek to engage audiences from all walks of life and break down barriers to participation in the digital revolution.
